Know How to Show WBS in Activities in P6

Primavera P6 offers a powerful way to manage projects through its Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) function. But for efficient scheduling and activity management, you might want to see the WBS directly within the activities view. Here’s how to achieve this in P6:

Grouping by WBS:

  1. Navigate to the Activities page in your P6 project.

  2. Click on the Layout menu located above the activities table.

  3. Select Group and Sort.

  4. In the Group By section, choose WBS. This will arrange your activities based on their assigned WBS levels.

  5. Click OK to apply the changes.

Now, your activities table will display groups based on the WBS hierarchy. You’ll see the WBS code and name for each level, providing a clear visual representation of how activities fit within the overall project structure.

Benefits of Viewing WBS in Activities:

  • Enhanced Clarity: Having the WBS directly visible within activities simplifies understanding of how each activity contributes to the broader project goals.
  • Improved Efficiency: Quick identification of WBS levels allows for easier navigation and management of activities within specific project phases.
  • Streamlined Scheduling: Grouping by WBS helps visualize dependencies between activities belonging to the same WBS element, facilitating more efficient scheduling.

Additional Considerations:

  • You can further customize the Activities table view by sorting by other criteria along with the WBS grouping.
  • Primavera P6 also offers a dedicated WBS tab for detailed management of your project structure.

By incorporating the WBS into your activities view, you gain a more comprehensive understanding of your project and streamline your workflow within Primavera P6.
